Whimsical Roadmaps Pt. 2
Here’s another recent flea market find.
I’m always on the lookout for maps with illustrations. Most times, I’m lucky to find one with an illustration on the cover, or perhaps one or two on the inside. With this one, I hit the jackpot. There are even different styles for the cover (gouache) and the inside (ink).
My favourites are the ink drawings. Very loose and almost gestural.
A perfect snapshot of the era: attendants filled your gas tank, checked your oil and cleaned your windshield. Men wore a suit and tie, and women wore pillbox hats. There was smoking, though. That wasn’t so cool.
