This quote is from Neil Pasricha’s book “The Happiness Equation”. There’s probably no other book I found so helpful over the past few years.
As I’ve been learning, I can’t wait for motivation to, well, motivate me into action. It’s the act of actually doing that quashes inertia. Even on those days when I just don’t feel like doing it, simply starting is enough to stoke the fire. Momentum takes over, and I always feel like a better person for having done so.
He also talks about your “ikigai” (pronounced like “icky guy”), which is basically your reason for getting up in the morning.
There were a lot of other quotes in the book I considered illustrating, such as:
- “Do it for you. Don’t do it for others.”
- “Find what’s hidden, stop apologizing, and accept yourself.”
- “You start doing, and confidence and motivation follow.”
- “Because motivation doesn’t cause action. Action causes motivation.”
However, it’s “Do. Can do. Want to do.” that’s always resonated the strongest for me.
